Our History
Howell Auto Center started as Howell Standard Service back in 1976 when two guys from Ann Arbor came to Howell to open a full service Amoco gas station and repair facility. Jim Darling and Rick Jones opened their first Amoco station just north of I-96 on Michigan Avenue. Howell Standard service had full service Amoco gas islands and auto repair for many years when the two men added their second Amoco station at Lee road in Brighton.

Fast forward to the 1980's when a full service gas station was quickly becoming a thing of the past and most stations were going to just gas and more of a convenience store, that is when Rick and Jim decided to purchase land just south of I-96 to build a repair facility which is now the home of Howell Auto Center. In 1988 Howell Auto Center was up and running with 7 full service bays and 1 designated oil change bay. Jeff Jones, Rick’s son joined the business in 1995

Jim Darling has been enjoying retirement for over 20 years, shortly after he retired Rick’s son Jeff, became a partner in the business. At this time Rick is cutting back his time and looking forward to enjoying retirement as well. Jeff will continue to run Howell Auto Center with the same level of quality and services that loyal customers have been used to for over 40 year
